Iron-Zapper System

Well water often contains Iron, which may stain plumbing fixtures, bath tubs, shower walls and doors. Iron can also stain sidewalks, driveways and add a metallic taste to your water. Manganese may also be a problem, leaving black spots on plumbing fixtures. Iron Zapper systems remove Iron, Manganese and small amounts of Hydrogen Sulfide without using chemicals in most installations. This installation has a Viqua UV light to remove E.coli and coliform bacteria When iron bacteria is present which looks like disolved orange particles, chlorine assistance may be needed to guarantee the removal of the iron bacteria.

Sulfer Shield

Well water often contains Hydrogen Sulfide, resulting in “rotten egg” or Sulfur odors. Well water may also contain pesticides, Radon, VOCs and harmful chemicals. Sulfur Shield systems are designed to remove Hydrogen Sulfide and these other impurities without using chemicals in most installations. However, if your water contains immensely high levels of sulfer or bacteria, water treatment chemicals may be required for disinfection. pH Acid Neutralizer

pH Acid Neutralizers utilize a blend of Calcite and Corosex media to neutralize the free carbon dioxide in water, rendering it less corrosive. Calcite has “self-limiting” properties. When properly applied, it corrects pH only enough to reach a non-corrosive equilibrium. It does not overcorrect under normal conditions. Upon contact with Calcite, acidic waters slowly dissolve the calcium carbonate to raise the pH which reduces the potential leaching of copper, lead and other metals found in typical plumbing systems. Acidic water will sometimes give a metalic taste to the water because of its aggressiveness with any metal that may be present in the plumbing system. Periodic backwashing will reclassify the bed which will prevent packing, channeling, and maintain high service flow. Some plumbing application where copper is present may require polyphosphate cartridges (which is pictured along the wall). These cartridges slowly distolve and create a thin lining inside the copper to prevent further etching of the copper pipe.

Water Softener

The process whereby hardness minerals (Calcium and Magnesium) are removed from your water is described below:

  1. Water flows through the resin bed.
  2. As water flows through the ion exchange resin, hardness minerals (Calcium & Magnesium) are attracted to the resin and are removed from the water.
  3. Eventually, the resin reaches its capacity and the resin must be cleaned. (This process is called “regeneration”.)
  4. The metered control valve initiates the “cleaning process”, based on gallons used (not time).
  5. During the cleaning process, brine water flows through the resin and the hardness minerals become attached to the sodium in the brine water.
  6. After a period of time, the resin is rinsed so no salt will get into your water.
  7. Softener will also remove low levels of iron, but is not recommended with higher levels.
